The one with my birthday….

Yep that’s right today is my birthday…. the big 29… the last year before I hit 30! Scary!!! I am starting my bday off by being woke up by my darling daughter at 5:50am because she wants to change her clothes… yes- pressing at 5am I know! From there I could not go back to sleep… you see…. I am sick as a dog!! :( I have had a bad bad cold for 4 days now and it keeps me up coughing and not breathing at night… not to mention my throat is killing me and I cannot talk- literally i have no voice…. what a great birthday gift! :( So I got up- netti-potted- and got a bunch of junk out and now I am going to run…. YES you heard that right …. RUN!! This will be my first run since the Dr. told me to stop because of my toe…. but lets back up for a minute… shall we…

I got my MRI results back and there is not tendon damage so it looks to just be tendinitis in my hallux tendon. Basically was just told to rest and hope it helps. In the mean time though I got a 2 hour massage for my bday :) and the massage therapist recommended wearing five finger shoes to strengthen my toe and foot. She said her son had a very similar problem and started wearing those and since then…no problems… so I am off to buy some five finger shoes today…. I am just going to wear them around for now and ease my way into running in them. So after finding out there was not tendon damage and taking 2 1/2 weeks off… I am going to run….

Next- went back to the ENT to find out that my blood work is normal which is good and they he thinks my sinus infections might be fungal. So he put me on a few things to try to rid my body of the fungus. In the mean time I am venturing down another path. I was able to get an appt at the prestigious PerlMutter health center here in Naples, They are on the cutting edge of alternative medicine. They meet with you and give you a lifestyle plan- which includes vitamins, massage, diet changes… etc. I am really excited and hoping for good things to come from this. I also made an appt with a holistic practitioner when I get home to get food sensitivity testing done. I have heard that this helps a lot of people- you get rid of the things that you body is constantly fighting and then they body is able to better keep you healthy. I am a little nervous on what I will have to give up though… but for the first time in my life I am open to it and just want to feel better!! I also found out that fungus feeds on sugar so in an effort to kill any fungus in my body- I am going to TRY to go the whole month of April without eating foods with added sugar…. and for those of you who know me… this is going to be near impossible but I am going to try….

So anyways- that’s all my news… we are heading out with some great friends and family tonight to celebrate… I will be hopped up on cold meds but it will be a great time!!

I am off to run… wish me luck…. will post a follow up comment on  how it went so stay tuned…

  1. HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Our family does the food sensitivity and it has changed our health! In the beginning you have ot be pretty hard core, but then some things you can have occasionally and be fine let me know what you find out!

  2. Happy Birthday Alisha! I hope you feel better. Excited to hear what you think of the holistic Dr. Also, when you get back, if your tendon isn’t better, I thought you might be interested in trying an underwater treadmill. I have been using an underwater treadmill in Shakopee. It decreases the impact and allows you still to run. It has been a great resource for me while I try to get back from my injury. I would be happy to give you more information when you get back! Love ya

  3. Wow…Happy Birthday. I hope your day goes well. After all your testing is done and you find out your sensitivites and if you are feeling overwhelmed and not sure what to make, just let me know. Hopefully they won’t find any thing…but if they do…I have mastered gluten, dairy, egg, peanut, tree nut, soy, and corn free…oh I can also make treats with out sugar too. And I’m picky, any thing I make needs to taste “normal”. You see my kids have food allergies and when I make stuff, we all eat it. I don’t want to have to make some thing different because their food doesn’t taste good, I want them to be able to enjoy it as well. My Aunt just went through the food sensitivity testing and she had a lot of foods on her list she couldn’t eat…but after a year and a half, she has been able to add quite a few things back from her list. Just remember, it takes 3-6 months to heal your body….oh, and I do have some fab recipes and can help you shop in MN.

  4. Happy Birthday!!! You are an amazing person. Sick and still you persevere. I heard a wheel chair marathoner who has completed over 100 marathons say, “a race is won with the heart, not speed!” You certainly reinforce that idea. Your heart is clearly committed to the race. Hope you are feeling better soon.
