The one with all the answers…. sort of…

Epic fail on my part- I have totally neglected the blog… sorry peeps! Since getting home from FL we have been in a whirlwind….. so where to begin…

I have been running since my birthday- not much… but some…. I actually got laryngitis on my birthday and that turned into yet another sinus infection so running was not high on my list. Needless to say- I ran the Goldy’s 10 mile last saturday and while it did not go as well as I had hoped…. I still cut 10 minutes off my time from last year… even with a month off for a toe injury and illness… not too bad I guess. My next race is in Seattle! I was supposed to run the Lake Minnetonka half marathon but the girls and I are going out to see Glen in Seattle and so I signed up for one out there and I am really really excited to run in totally unknown territory! I need to get my butt in better shape before that though!!

While I was in FL I go the chance to go to the prestigious Perlmutter center. They are at the forefront of alternative medicine and natural medicine and I saw Dr. Roberts who actually used to be an ENT surgeon. It was a 2 hour appt with lots of talking and tests. It was an amazing experience- very loving- very casual- very un-doctor like. I sat and visited with her for an hour- told her everything that I have been through and how I am at my wits end and nothings seems to help. She was great- very insightful and very encouraging. Basically she believes that it is a thyroid issue. It sounds weird but a rare side effect of a low functioning thyroid can be sinus infections. And when I get them my worst symptoms are the headache and the fatigue which are both classic thyroid issues. She says she sees a lot of women who develop problems like this after having two or more kids and thats when it started for me was after Lyla. She put me on a iodine supplement which is suppose to help improve thyroid function. She also did food allergy testing and adrenaline testing to see if I am eating something that is making it worst- she says it is likely (and then I will have to adjust my diet accordingly)- the adrenaline test will test my other hormones to see if they are at all causing my immune system to lower after having kids. She is also doing a crazy in depth thyroid test and a zillion blood, antibodies, cholesterol, etc tests to make sure everything looks ok. The test results will all be back in the next 4 weeks and then her and I will have another hour long meeting via phone or skype to discuss the results and what happens next. She looked me in the eye and told me she feels she can solve me problem and for the first time I believed her. I am really optimistic about everything she said. She also put me on another supplement or 5HTP and few other minerals in hopes to start naturally producing more seratonin in my body and hopes to get me off the lexapro for anxiety as well. And it would be amazing to control everything naturally as well!! She also gave me a book that she wrote about her journey from being and ENT surgeon to practicing holistic medicine, and how holistic medicine works, and how the boy all works together. I am already 30 pages in and loving it. For the first time I am realizing that for a long time I have been given a “one size fits all” conventional medicine approach to this and I may be the type that does not work for. I no longer want to “sweep it under the drug” as she says… I want to find the root of the problem and fix it and I think the holistic way is going to do that for me. They also took blood for a food sensitivities test…. which leads me to my next discovery…..

A friend recommended the book “Eat right 4 your type“… which is all about how you should eat certain foods depending on our blood type. I am telling you in the last month I have read a lot of books recommended to me to deal with all this crap but this book did it for me… it astounded me!! It was like reading a horoscope… truly… I could not believe how much this book told me without knowing anything but my blood type. It said exactly how I carry stress, how I need to exercise, how people with type O (thats me) can have low functioning thyroids, how type O is susceptible to chronic sinus infections (which he recommended stone root for- so now I put little drops into a capsule and take it- very witch dr :) but I like it) and even how type O can be more prone to allergies. Needless to say- I am going to give the type O diet a full go…. he says give it 2 weeks and you will feel different…. and then I am hoping to continue with it and hopefully it will work. My problem is that I am a total instant gratification person and am never patient enough to try it long enough to see if it will work…. so I need to pray for patience and hopefully get success. Basically type O diet is no dairy and grains a a few other things…. for a list look here…. the good news is that I can stay on top of what I can eat with their app… yes there is an app for that! :)

Anyways…. thats all for now….
