The one with the good, the bad, & the ugly….

Well… lets start with the good shall we…. I recently signed up to join Team in Training for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and am going to run the Nike Womens Half Marthon with them out in San Francisco on Oct. 14…… why the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society??? In the last month Glen’s college pitching Coach Todd Oakes (Or T.O. as we know him) was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He has started Chemo and we do not know much about his diagnosis yet but in the mean time I felt an overwhelming need to do something for the man who did so much for Glen and our family. To say that he is one of the main reasons that Glen is where he is today would be an understatement… without his leadership, guidance, coaching and support- Glen would not be the player or man that he is today. And since I cannot do anything medically to help- running for a cure seemed like the next best thing… so I joined the team…. but I cannot do it without support…. please give anything you can to my race for T.O. and all the others who are fighting the battle against this disease…. do it for no other reason than that you like to watch Glen do his thing… because without T.O. he might not be able to throw gas! :)

Please give what you can and I promise to run as fast as I can towards a cure…. to give please click HERE

Ok- now for the bad…. I started training to run the Women Rock marathon on Sept 1.. I got 14 miles in and realized our lives are far to hectic for me to be training like this right now… it honestly is a part time job and when you are a stay at him mom with two kids under 5 and a hubby who is gone more than he is home it is just too complicated. To be honest it became more of a stress in my life than something that I was loving…. and then it lost its appeal. I truly enjoy half marathons and I have ran enough of them that my body is used to it endurance-wise and physically, therefore I do not have to stick to a strict workout regiment to be able to do them- basically I can run for fun and still be able to compete in them… so for now I am sticking to the halfs and maybe someday when my kids are older I can give the full another shot…

That leaves the ugly… WARNING: the following post may gross you out….. I warned you…. So after my trips to mayo and a few ideas of what to do to fix the headaches, sinus issues, and fatigue… I still wasn’t feeling like the answer was concrete to me…. after reading an article in Womens Health I decided to get a colonic- truly just to get my body cleaned out and generally feel better…. what happened next changed everything……… for those of you who do not know what a colonic is - click here - but it is basically that water is shot from your booty up into your colon and large intestine and then kind of “vacuumed” out to clean it all out. It takes about 45 mins and does not hurt at all… maybe a little odd to visit with the technician while you are having it done but after you have had kids it’s all relative :) So I went in expecting a bunch of poop to come out the tube (to be frank) but instead a bunch of chunks of white yeast came out… leading us to believe that I have an overgrowth of yeast in my colon or intestines….. probably from all the antibiotics that I have taken over the last 3 years for the sinus infections. So I went home and goggled it and here is what I found…. I basically meet most  the symptoms- no matter what website you go too…. it floored me!!! I spoke with my aunt who performs colonics and she said she had it and did the candida diet, used yeast killers, and kept getting colonics and it changed her life. So as of yesterday I started the candida diet which is VERY hard to do- I am going to struggle but I really think it will help!! Should hopefully only have to do it for 3-4 weeks then be able to reintroduce fruits, coffee, etc.  Also started the yeast killers and am keeping up with the colonics weekly…. I am a little nervous about the stage that is called “the die off” where the yeast is dying… people get nausea, headaches, fatigue, etc but after you get through it  you feel lots better…. here’s hoping!! Will keep you all updated!!

Lastly- I am off to run on the treadmill because it is hotter than h-e-double hockey sticks in MN right now!!

Happy and safe fourth of July to you all!

Distance: going to run 5-6 miles

  1. Wow…sounds like and intense and (hopefully) game-changer for you! Here’s hoping and praying that this yeast overgrowth was the issue all along and that you will get good results from the diet and ‘yeast killers.’
Three of my sisters have done T in T half-marathons in the past in honor of my nephew, Jason. He is a survivor of childhood leukemia (on chemo from age 9-12) and is 30 years old now! Team in Training is a great organization and they raise lots and lots of money for Leukemia/Lymphoma research. What a wonderful way to honor and help your friend and Glen’s coach. You inspire and motivate so many people! Thanks for chronicling your journey through health issues and running adventures!
